Due to a retirement, the Village of New Concord is accepting applications for the position of Fire Chief. New Concord is located in eastern Ohio on the boundary of Muskingum and Guernsey Counties.
The service area encompasses 71 square miles and includes the Village, Union, Rich, Hill, and Highland Townships in Muskingum County, and Westland and Adams Townships in Guernsey County under a contract for services agreement.
In addition to residential development, the Village features a small downtown commercial district and the campus of Muskingum University. The rural townships are interspersed with large tracts of forest and farmland.
The Fire Chief is the only full-time position and leads an agency with 23 part-time and 13 volunteer personnel. The department provides around-the-clock in-station staffing and responds to approximately 1,200 calls for service annually, with 80% of the calls being EMS related.
The department enjoys a high approval rating of their services, attributed to the focus on customer service. The department works closely with mutual-aid agencies and has an ISO Public Classification of 4/4Y.
The Fire Chief reports directly to the Mayor. This highly visible position requires an energetic individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to foster a strong team environment.
Successful applicants will have experience in planning and have a broad background in all aspects of service delivery including fire prevention and EMS. The applicant should have experience working in a combination department that provides EMS.
Requirements include 10 years of fire and EMS experience with a minimum of three years supervisory experience (minimum of lieutenant) and the following State of Ohio certifications: Firefighter II, EMT-B, Certified Fire Safety Inspector, and a valid Ohio operator’s license.
Hazardous Materials-Operations level training is also required. Desired qualifications include paramedic and completion of Fire Officer I-II training. An associated degree from an accredited institution in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Safety Management, Business Administration, or related field is highly desired.
The successful applicant must be in good physical condition and have the ability to pass all pre-employment screenings, including physical examination and drug screening.
The salary range for this position is $48,000 to $55,000 DOQ and experience, and includes a comprehensive benefit package.
