Matt Abbott ’05
The Opening Convocation speaker is Matt Abbott ’05. Abbott serves as the Executive Director for the Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority (ZMCPA). He helps lead the region’s efforts in community and economic development, partnering with city and county authorities, state government, and multiple public-private growth organizations.
A graduate of John Glenn High School, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and history from Muskingum University. He holds a Master of Education degree from Salem University and the Ohio Certified Economic Developer credential. Prior to joining the ZMCPA, he was a school administrator in Muskingum County.
Abbott serves in leadership roles on numerous regional boards and committees, including as the Past Chairman of the Board for the Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce, current Chairman of the Eastern Ohio Development Alliance, and current President of the East Muskingum Local School Board.
He is a member of the Ohio Southeast Economic Development Executive Board, Genesis Healthcare System Board of Directors, Genesis Healthcare System Finance Committee, the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District Advisory Board, Zane State College Advisory Board, Bethesda Hospital Board of Directors, and Genesis Pro Am Committee.
