The New Concord Area Pool (NCAP), which has been closed for the 2020 season, is undergoing renovations throughout the end of the summer and into the fall.
Improvements made to the pool include a replacement of the damaged retention wall, construction of a second pavilion with a concrete pad, new ADA compliant access from the parking lot to the pool deck, additional drainage and stormwater management, improvements to the basketball court, and a sand volleyball court.
Village Administrator Charlotte Colley said these improvements will better serve the village community.
“The pool access will be ADA compliant. There will be a much safer, and nicer looking, retention wall. There will be an additional pavilion to accommodate more patrons and help with birthday parties and special events. There will be a new sand volleyball court to provide additional active recreational opportunities,” said Colley.
The decision to close the pool for the 2020 season was made before COVID-19, when the village received a NatureWorks grant to cover most of the cost of the project in late 2019. The Village must match 25% of costs.
However, COVID-19 did delay the construction as the village was facing back-ups experienced by contractors.
Although the project is currently on hold, Colley said there may be a need for volunteers once the major project construction is completed.
“Things like painting, placing basketball court improvements, sprucing up landscape, etc. We will not have a solid grasp on this until some of the bigger items are completed. NCAARD will be helping the Village to spread the word on any volunteer opportunities there will be for the pool project,” said Colley.
