Celebrating my final College Radio Day

WMCO will celebrate the 11th annual World College Radio Day, a worldwide celebration of the unique medium of college radio, on Friday, Oct. 1. College Radio Day is celebrated by more than 600 radio stations in 40 countries.

I am in my final semester as a Muskingum student and WMCO staffer, making this my last College Radio Day.

The last three and a half years have been a blessing. As a freshman in the fall of 2018, I had no idea the impact college radio has on the world. I started eager to be heavily involved in sports broadcasting. Little did I know I would immerse myself in so many other facets of this unique medium.

In my second semester on campus, the spring of 2019, I became the sales director of WMCO, which significantly improved my communication and personal skills.

Will Ford and Brice Lillibridge broadcast Muskingum football at John Carroll during the 2019 season.

Soon after, I earned the position of WMCO Sports Director, taking over after the great Michael Pagano, who was graduating. Being sports director for two years was fun, challenging, and it helped me start living my dream of being a play-by-play broadcaster and sports radio show host.

I was promoted to WMCO Program Director and the President of Orbit Media In the spring of 2021. Serving the WMCO Staff has been my highest honor since I’ve been a part of the organization, and I will forever be thankful for that opportunity.

I am incredibly thankful for all of the opportunities college radio has provided thousands of students across the world, including myself.

My time as a WMCO staffer is starting to come to a close. As the days go by, I often think of a song lyric in “You’re Somebody Else” by Flora Cash that reads, “Go forward slowly / It’s not a race to the end.”
