Muskingum University Student Bryce Skok died Tuesday, Sept. 22 when his silver 1996 Honda Civic coming eastbound toward New Concord collided with Mary Francis’ mini van on Route 40 and Fox Creek Road in New Concord.
Skok, 18, from Mansfield, was alive when the first officer arrived on the scene of the accident. Zanesville Post Ohio State Highway Patrolman Joshua Weaver arrived and performed CPR until New Concord EMS arrived. Skok was not wearing a seat belt. The vehicle’s airbags did inflate during the crash.
Weaver says to “wear your seat belt that will possibly save your life if not prevent unnecessary injuries. It is designed to keep you in that seat.”
Route 40 was closed during initial response and investigation of the accident. The road is now open. Muskingum University President Anne Steele released a statement to the Muskingum Community Tuesday evening that said a prayer service will be held in Skok’s memory Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Brown Chapel.
