Muskingum University faculty and staff have been given increased access to the Walter K. Chess Center, according Director of Recreation and Campus Activities, Deven Siesel.
Siesel said the decision was made over the summer in an attempt to increase engagement between students, faculty, and staff at the university.
“We really value those interactions that faculty and staff have with our students,” said Siesel, “especially outside of the classroom.”
Faculty and staff will be allowed into the Chess Center from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m., while students may now use the building beginning at 8 a.m.
Siesel said the earlier time frame for faculty and staff was chosen to avoid potential congestion in the afternoons and evenings.
“We want to make sure that that is still very much a student-focused building,” said Siesel.
Siesel said any faculty or staff member who advises any on-campus groups can still access the Chess Center afterhours to attend meetings or programs.
“It gives faculty and staff a great location to meet some of their wellness needs,” said Siesel.
Other changes to the Chess Center include new exercise equipment, additional TVs near the Winn Café, and the option for students to check-out board games.
