The Muskingum Women’s Basketball team comes into the 2021 season after going 3-20 in Erin Eaton’s first year as head coach.

Injuries plagued the Lady Muskies during the 2019-2020 season, which hindered the team’s ability to win in games towards the season’s end.

Erin Eaton is in her second season as the head coach of the Lady Muskies basketball program. The team finished 3-20 overall in her first season.

Eaton is now in her second season leading the Muskies with Assistant Coach Sean Strickland. Seniors Olivia Lang and Camay Baylock retake the court, along with junior Sarah Miller and sophomore Casey Smith.

Muskingum also welcomes junior Tanner Wirth, a transfer from Tiffin University, and five first-year students to the roster this year.

Lang led the Lady Muskies in scoring last season, averaging 11.1 points per game while shooting 46.2% on three-point attempts. Baylock started in 23 of 24 games, scoring 7.7 points per contest.

Miller scored a career-high 23 points against Mount Union last year and grabbed 5.0 rebounds per game. Finally, Smith averaged 10.3 points and shot 40.3% from the field as a freshman.

In 2021, the Lady Muskies are 1-1. The Ohio Athletic Conference canceled Muskingum’s first two games against Capital on Jan. 22 and Jan. 23 due to COVID-19 protocols within the Crusader program.

Muskingum split their two games against the Wilmington Quakers on Friday, Jan. 29, and Saturday, Jan. 30. In Saturday’s win, the Lady Muskies broke the school record for three-pointers made in a game, sinking 15 out of 30 attempts.

Tanner Wirth paces the Lady Muskies in scoring so far this season, averaging 15.5 points per contest. Wirth transferred from Tiffin University after her sophomore season last year.

Wirth paces the Lady Muskies in scoring through two games, averaging 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. Second in scoring is freshman Taylor DeMassimo with 13.5 points per game while shooting 75% from the free-throw line. Freshman Abby Jones rounds out Muskingum’s three scoring leaders with 12.0 points per contest, shooting 61.5% from the floor.

The Lady Muskies will play at home in the Anne C. Steele Center against the Marietta Lady Pioneers on Friday, Feb. 5, and on the road Saturday, Feb. 6. Tip-off for Friday’s game is at 7 p.m., and Saturday’s game will begin at 6 p.m.
