Muskingum University Football Head Coach Erik Ieuter is ready to watch his team begin the 2022 season. The Fighting Muskies open the season up against Ferrum College in Virginia on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m.
“Ferrum was a good team last year. They went 6-4 last season, so they’re going to be a good opponent,” said Ieuter.
Muskingum had a 10-year contract with Waynesburg University as their first game but with that ending last season, Muskingum signed a two-year contract with Ferrum College with the first year at Ferrum and the second at Muskingum.
Over the summer, the schools exchanged film so they have both been preparing for a few months.
“So far we spent the last couple weeks getting better ourselves and now we’re going full speed ahead preparing for Ferrum,” said Ieuter.
The Muskingum football team brought in 78 players for the 2022 season and Coach Ieuter
described the new players as “…high character guys and guys that I think are going to be good players here [at Muskingum].” Ieuter highlighted two freshmen specifically that will be joining the starting lineup, Noah Wellmeier and Jeremiah Livingston.
“From last year, we did some good things. We had the best record in 18 years but at the same time it was still 5-5. We want more than that, so our guys are working to take that next step. That’s our goal as a program is to take the next step to get in the upper tier of the OAC,” said Ieuter.
