New Concord Village Council passed an ordinance to enter into a contract with Kimble Recycling & Disposal for village-wide refuse and recycling service. The ordinance passed with a 5-1 vote during the Feb. 11 council meeting.

Village Administrator Charlotte Colley said she is looking forward to the recycling portion of the new contract. “I’m very, very excited to have dedicated recycling for all of our residents, not just dumpsters for them to hopefully put their items in if there is enough space. So they’ll have more control over what they’re placing in their recycling and in their trash,” said Colley.

One resident who attended the council meeting expressed his concern about the service, saying “It’s a violation, I feel, of my rights.”

Colley explained there was only one other village resident who officially shared concerns and four village residents who shared official approval for the new program, along with other residents who showed support through social media.

Colley said the new service will be a clean program for the village and will limit truck travel and wear on the roads.

The new plan, which includes unlimited trash disposal and recycling, will be $17.07 a month.

The new service will begin March 6. Village residents can expect a “welcome” letter addressing the change, including cost information.

Questions can be directed to Colley by phone at (740) 826-7671, ext. 106 or by calling Kimble Recycling & Disposal at (800) 201-0005.

The next village council meeting is Monday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Village Hall.
