The New Concord Area Board of Trade held their 78th annual banquet at East Muskingum Middle School on April 4 with special guest speaker Matt Abbot.
Abbott is the Executive Director for the Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority (ZMCPA) and an alumnus of John Glenn High School and Muskingum University.
Abbott’s speech presented an overview of the economic development happening in and around Zanesville and Muskingum County including the economic realities of a post-pandemic world.
“Well, I mean, it’s an honor anytime that you know, you’re asked to be able to speak in front of a group, such as in the Concord area Board of Trade,” said Abbott. “There’s a lot of leaders that are here today, leaders in government, leaders in leaders, in the private sector. As far as business and leaders in education.”
According to Jackie Vascura, one of the directors of the board, 91 people were in attendance at the banquet. This included Congressman Troy Balderson and New Concord Mayor Jennifer Lyle.
“Having everybody be together is wonderful,” said Lyle. “…there’s very rarely a time where everybody in the town who has interest in the community all sit down at the same time and talk about it.”
Trent Cubbison, principal for East Muskingum Middle School, and also a director for the Board of Trade, was the master of ceremonies for the event.
“As we look at the makeup of the room tonight, we have a great snapshot of our community and the surrounding area…,” Cubbison said. “…we really have all aspects of what it takes to have a business in our area so that’s kind of exciting.”
A dinner buffet was served by Theo’s Catering, musical entertainment was provided by Matt Frampton, and invocation was led by Pastor Keith Taylor of College Drive Presbyterian Church.
